South El Paso, April 23, 2006. The City of El Paso is considering an urban renewal plan for South El Paso. This area is a thriving commercial district because it is directly adjacent to the border with Mexico. The neighborhood also contains interesting buildings, many from the turn of the Twentieth Century. Early on a Sunday morning in the spring of 2006, Susie and I photographed every interesting building on South Oregon Street and South Mesa Street south of Paisano Drive. Here are a dozen of these photographs, beginning with this highly detailed brick building on the northwest corner of South Oregon and Father Rahm.

South El Paso, April 23, 2006. The Robert Krakauer Memorial Building, at 510 South Oregon, was built in 1921, in memory of the son of a prominent merchant family with stores in Chihuaha City and El Paso. The building is now home to El Paso Children's Day Care Association.
